About Water Testing

Aerobiology Laboratory provides comprehensive water testing analysis for the detection of Waterborne Disease Pathogens (WBD). These analyses support compliance to CMS 2018 Memorandum, NY State Department of Health regulations and the EPA Safe Water Drinking Act. Our services include cultures and qPCR for the detection of Legionella pneumophila and Legionella species and Heterotrophic Plate Count (HPC). All Aerobiology Laboratory locations can also provide analysis for hospital pathogens such as Pseudomonas, Non-tuberculosis mycobacteria (NTM), Acinetobacter, E. coli, fecal coliforms, Enterococcus, sulfate-reducing bacteria, nitrifying bacteria and iron bacteria. Our experienced staff can assist in developing a comprehensive water testing program. All seven locations are CDC ELITE certified and AIHA EMLAP accredited for bacteria, fungi and Legionella.

About Indoor Air Quality Testing

IAQ Microbial Testing is utilized to determine bacteria and fungi organisms and their concentrations in the indoor environment. IAQ testing is often used after water damage has occurred and to validate if remediation has been effective. Seven Aerobiology locations are accredited by AIHA-LAP, LLC in the environmental microbiology testing (EMLAP) program. These analyses includes bacterial and fungal cultures, counts and identification and speciation in air, surface, water and bulk samples in addition to non-viable spore traps and direct microscopic examination of surfaces and bulk samples. Aerobiology also offers sampling supplies for purchase or and equipment rental.

About Healthcare Testing

HAI (Healthcare Associated Infections) are considered infections while the patient is receiving medical care at a healthcare facility, long-term care facilities or outpatient centers. Situations arise when a HAI is suspect after patient exposure to medical procedures, extended stays, colonized water systems or devices and nearby hospital construction. Aerobiology offers a wide array of Healthcare Testing Profiles to help facilities assess the microbial bioburden in the patient’s environments and to track target pathogens. These profiles include clinical fungi, pathogenic thermophilic fungi, Carbapene-Resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE), Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA), Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci, Nontuberculous Mycobacteria (NTM), and other emerging pathogens such as Acinetobacter, Klebsiella and Candida auris.

About USP 797 Testing

USP <797> is designed for health care institutions, pharmacies and other compounding facilities to insure the sterilization of drugs that are used in compounding sterile preparations. The environmental monitoring and the microbial evaluation of staff’s sterile techniques in compounding sterile preparations (CSPs) is critical to patient care. All Aerobiology locations are accredited in viable cultures for identification and speciation of bacteria and fungi isolated from air samples, surface samples, gloved fingertip samples, media fill samples and sterility verification samples. Aerobiology can assist in developing a microbial monitoring program for compliance to USP <797>.

About Asbestos Testing

There are six kinds of asbestos, which are naturally occurring, fibrous, heat resistant minerals. Due to their strength, flexibility and resistance to heat, these fibers were once used extensively in building materials. Asbestos exposure can lead to illnesses, including COPD, lung cancer, and mesothelioma. Due its dangerous nature, building materials must be tested for asbestos prior to removal. Aerobiology has four laboratories that are accredited by NVLAP (EPA 600/R-93/116) for PLM analysis of bulk material for asbestos: Virginia, Phoenix, Denver and Huntington Beach. Additionally, Virginia and Denver offer PCM analysis for asbestos fibers in air samples.
